What is a Personal Adviser?
A Personal Adviser is a professional who supports young people who are Care Leavers. Their role is to provide you with support, advice and guidance into adulthood. They are very creative in their roles and these are some of the things they may support you with:
- Going to appointments.
- Co-ordinating support for you from other services.
- Helping you achieve your ambitions in education/training/employment.
- Supporting you to access the correct finances.
- Being a shoulder to cry on when you may be struggling.
- Helping you with your Setting Home Allowance to make sure you have everything for your home!
- Reviewing your Pathway Plan.
- Supporting you to make sure you have accommodation that meets your needs.
- Supporting you to attend meetings.
- Supporting you to engage in leisure and social activities.
- Making sure your voice is heard.
- Engaging with you to make changes for other children and young people.
- Helping you with your family and social relationships.
Your Personal Adviser will see you regularly and will make contact with you at a minimum of every two months. How this contact happens will be decided as part of your Pathway Plan and it can be more often if this is what you would like. Each time you have contact with your Personal Adviser you will know the arrangements for the next time you will see each other.
